Volunteering with PPGNY has been such a meaningful experience. It’s been powerful to meet and organize with others in my community who are just as committed to reproductive justice. Being part of the Black Organizing Program has deepened my understanding of local issues and helped me feel more connected and engaged as a New Yorker.

Join PPGNY's Black Organizing Program
Together, we will focus on reproductive justice activism by and for Black communities.
Volunteering with PPGNY means being part of a mission that aligns deeply with my values. In a society where women’s health is often underprioritized, underfunded, and overlooked, contributing my time and energy to this work feels both urgent and empowering. I’m proud to support and advocate for sexual and reproductive healthcare, and to stand alongside others who are equally committed to making lasting change. Let’s keep up the work!

About BOP
The Black Organizing Program (BOP) at PPGNY began in 2022 as a safe space to unapologetically center and uplift the stories and experiences of Black people to provide virtually and in-person restorative justice spaces, while advocating, educating and expanding access to reproductive rights, justice, and liberation.
The Black Organizing Program model was informed by what we learned through Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) experience with Latinx organizing, including the potential for local organizers to foster relationships in authentic ways. Based on this successful model, PPFA’s Black Organizing program was designed to provide training and leadership development opportunities to build the capacity of Black organizers and volunteers, mobilize supporters, and assist Planned Parenthood affiliates in prioritizing Black organizing and building relationships with local Black communities in a culturally relevant way.
Today, Planned Parenthood provides critical health care services to nearly 3 million people, 18% of whom identify as Black.
Our Mission
Our Black Organizing Program is dedicated to supporting the advancement of reproductive justice and health equity for Black communities in New York. We strive to empower individuals, dismantle systemic barriers, and create a future where all Black people have the resources and support they need to thrive.
The sexual and reproductive health care choices of Black women, femmes, and birthing people have long been politicized. Despite the ongoing threats against their personal safety, Black communities have demonstrated a profound commitment to the liberation of all people.
But it is not enough to merely acknowledge these structural systems; we must honor the tireless work of Black reproductive justice leaders by eradicating these systems.
PPGNY knows that when we support and uplift the political and social power of Black communities through advocacy, education, and resource distribution, we will build an equitable, sustainable, and inclusive movement that centers those who are most impacted.
