Planned Parenthood Votes Nevada Celebrates Increased Funding for Vital Health Care Services

Carson City, NV — Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak will be signing SB 94, increased funding for the Family Planning Grant Program, into law at a signing ceremony this afternoon at the Governor’s Mansion. Today’s signing marks the culmination of the hard work state legislators and activists who advocated and fought for this bill.

SB 94, which allocates $6 million in funding for the Family Planning Grant Program over the biennium, comes at a pivotal time for reproductive care in the United States.

Statement of Lindsey Harmon, Executive Director, Planned Parenthood Votes Nevada:

“This is a huge win for Nevadans’ access to affordable health care. By further funding the Family Planning Grant program, Nevada is taking a step toward protecting vital reproductive care including access to affordable birth control, cancer screenings, and STI-screening and treatment.”

“We commend Governor Sisolak and Nevada’s state legislators for their commitment to protecting reproductive health care as we enter an era of unprecedented attacks against reproductive rights and health from the Trump-Pence administration.”

About SB 94, Funding for the Family Planning Grant Program:

  • Funding Nevada’s Family Planning Grant Program is more important now more than ever. The Trump-Pence administration’s Title X ‘gag rule’ is scheduled to take effect on May 3rd. The rule, which bans health care providers at health centers that receive Title X funding from discussing or writing referrals for abortion, could leave providers throughout the state without funding they once received.

  • Reproductive care is health care, and it’s never been more important to invest in that care than it is today. With federal restrictions and attacks increasing, it is more important now more than ever, that states protect the reproductive health care and ensure that health centers that serve Nevada’s communities are able to provide that vital care at an affordable cost.

  • The results of the 2018 midterm elections are clear in Nevada. The state overwhelmingly elected candidates who believe that reproductive health care is a right including a Governor who has the courage to stand up with Planned Parenthood to fight for reproductive health care.
