How Brands, Business Leaders, and Employees Can Support Abortion Access in the Face of Abortion Bans and Restrictions

In addition to the actions below for brands, executives, and employees, we encourage your company to join the Don't Ban Equality network. The network includes more than 450 national companies that oppose state bans and have committed to support abortion access. The Don't Ban Equality website includes workforce polls on abortion bans, as well as data points about the toll of abortion bans on worker earnings, state GDP, and employers’ recruitment and retention efforts.

Company/Brand Calls to Action

  • Assess workforce health care coverage and benefits, including travel stipend, paid time off, child care, abortion funds, etc.

  • Advocate and use the company platform to champion sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) access, and call out the economic and social harms of abortion bans.

  • Provide in-kind/core business contributions of products, services, and/or staff time — such as free transportation to health centers and other services that could support Planned Parenthood’s care delivery and advocacy efforts.

  • Implement employee donations/matching gift programs to abortion providers.

  • Encourage employees to donate relevant staff expertise and in-kind business support.

  • Publish internally — and ideally, externally — a national company plan in support of reproductive rights and health care access.

CEO and C-Suite Calls to Action

  • Review your company policies — including health care plan, time off, and child care — to ensure insurance coverage and support for abortion access.

  • Use your position to engage public thought leadership, raise awareness of the threat to abortion access, and destigmatize sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

  • Call and engage your peers, to discuss the issue of abortion bans — leveraging your spheres of influence to educate and mobilize other CEOs to take action.

  • Donate to Planned Parenthood, Planned Parenthood affiliates, and abortion funds.

  • Use your power as an investor in public/private markets to pressure companies with poor SRHR records to take action.

Employee Calls to Action

  • Arrange an employee meeting to raise awareness about the threat to abortion rights. Planned Parenthood’s Corporate Engagement Team can help organize and host.

  • Ensure you know what resources are available within the company to support access to abortion and other sexual and reproductive health care, with anonymity in place.

  • Host Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) to engage employee networks and/or leadership convenings.

  • Get involved as an individual with the abortion access Bans Off Our Bodies movement.
