GOP Presidential Nominee Donald Trump Is Hellbent on a National Abortion Ban, No Matter the Dangerous Consequences

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to Donald Trump becoming the de-facto GOP nominee for President, Planned Parenthood Votes executive director Jenny Lawson issued the following statement:

“Donald Trump's mission to destroy reproductive rights was just getting started during his first term. If he is elected to a second term, Donald Trump will ban abortion nationwide and deal countless other blows to reproductive health care, like IVF and birth control —- no matter the cost to our freedom. Trump's reckless plans will destroy the freedom and futures of millions of people who will lose the ability to control their own lives. 

“If re-elected, he’ll try to enact a national abortion ban and implement the anti-abortion movement’s sinister plan to leverage every tool and agency at their disposal to undermine reproductive freedom. Trump and his allies are coming for everything that supports us in deciding our own futures, including our freedom to decide if, when, and how to start a family.

“The threat is already at our doorstep. Trump’s wish is already a reality in the 21 states that have banned all or some abortions since the U.S. Supreme Court — notably the justices he nominated — carried out his mission to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022. Now, one in three women of reproductive age live in a state where abortion is banned and are blocked from accessing care in their home state, and families’ tragedies are compounded by being denied essential health care in their own communities. This is just the beginning. 

“Stopping Trump once again will be a tough fight, but Planned Parenthood Votes and supporters of reproductive freedom are battle-tested. We have fought through the elimination of our nearly 50-year right to control our bodies — turning rage into action, holding elected officials accountable at all levels, and protecting abortion access at the ballot box where possible. Planned Parenthood Votes will do everything in our power to keep Donald Trump from the White House.”
