Washington, DC — Tonight, Kamala Harris proved why we must elect champions for reproductive rights this November. While Pence tried to defend the Trump-Pence administration’s mishandling of COVID-19 and its rush to push through a Supreme Court nomination weeks before Election Day, Harris laid out a clear plan to tackle COVID-19, forcefully displayed her commitment to sexual and reproductive health care, and spoke thoughtfully about the incredible consequences of this election.

Planned Parenthood Votes’ executive director Jenny Lawson released the following statement:

“Tonight, Mike Pence lied about his record on health care and dodged questions about whether abortion should be outlawed because he knows he’s out of touch with the majority of the American people. Senator Kamala Harris made it perfectly clear: Trump and Pence can’t be trusted to prioritize our health and rights or keep us safe. We’ve seen it in the relentless attacks on the Affordable Care Act by their administration over the past four years. We’ve seen it in their non-stop attempts to restrict our reproductive rights. And we’ve seen it clearly over the past six months as they failed to lead the country during the COVID-19 pandemic that has cost more than 210,000 Americans their lives. Kamala Harris is the champion we need to partner with Joe Biden, expand access to health care, and fight for our reproductive freedom."

Planned Parenthood Votes is working from now until Election Day to get Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and other reproductive rights champions elected up and down the ballot across the country. “We Decide 2020” is Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations’ largest electoral program ever - with a historic investment of at least $45 million in key battleground states during the 2020 cycle.
