WASHINGTON, DC — When it comes to Kari Lake’s stance on abortion, watch what she does, not what she says. Kari Lake is running scared and trying to hide her record in public and manipulate voters. But behind closed doors, Kari Lake is touting her support for Arizona’s Civil War-era abortion ban. In a recording obtained by the Copper Courier, Lake is heard speaking at a Mohave County Republican Party event, confirming that she does, indeed, support the 1864 total abortion ban and calling on county sheriffs to enforce the law once it goes into effect.

We haven’t forgotten that this is the same candidate who called abortion the “ultimate sin,” said she would “very much support” banning abortion pills, and praised Arizona’s Civil War-era total abortion ban. She can try to hide, but Arizonans will see right through her come November.

“Kari Lake has spent all week trying to distance herself from the abortion ban in public, but nobody should be surprised that behind closed doors, Lake is making her true thoughts clear. We knew where Kari Lake stood in 2022; we knew where she stood last week; and we know where she stands today. Kari Lake is an anti-abortion extremist. And no matter what she tries to pretend in public to win votes, the fact remains that Kari Lake wouldn’t blink twice before voting to ban abortion nationally if she makes it to the U.S. Senate,” said Jenny Lawson, executive director of Planned Parenthood Votes.
