WASHINGTON, DC — Republicans have seen the latest polling on abortion, and they’re running scared. Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake is the latest of many candidates to try to hide from their anti-abortion record. In a video statement last week, Lake tried to spin her anti-abortion record by saying the issue has "already been sent back to the states." But she can't change the truth by adding moderate buzzwords to talking points: Lake is a sure vote for a national abortion ban.

The last time she ran,  Lake called abortion the “ultimate sin,” said she would “very much support” banning abortion pills, and praised Arizona’s Civil War-era total abortion ban. Lake is a walking, talking contradiction — following the lead not only of Donald Trump but of many failed candidates before her. She may have read the polls, but we’ve read her record — and voters will too.

“Kari Lake is insulting voters’ intelligence by trying to hide from her extremist record. Lake would be a dangerous rubber stamp for a total abortion ban if elected to the U.S. Senate. Just like she did in 2022,  Lake is spreading lies about abortion and trying to hide her true colors from voters. And just like in 2022, voters will see right through Lake’s charade,” said Jenny Lawson, executive director of Planned Parenthood Votes.

See for yourself how Lake is trying to distance herself from her own words:

 Kari Lake last week:

“I do NOT support a federal abortion ban, policy should be up to individual states. Democrats are the true extremists on this issue, supporting abortion for up to 9 months. In the Senate, I will advocate for protecting IVF, baby bonuses, extending the child tax credit, & providing more resources for women.”

Kari Lake in 2022 talking about Arizona’s abortion ban during her run for Governor:

“I’m incredibly thrilled that we are going to have a great law that’s already on the books...it will prohibit abortion in Arizona except to save the life of a mother.”

“I believe that abortion is the ultimate sin” and called it “demonic.”

“Of course I want women’s healthcare. This has moved beyond healthcare. We’re not giving women choices. I’m for giving women true choices… I will uphold the law, whatever that law is, and I want to see to it that we save more lives.”

Kari Lake praising the overturning of Roe:

“... I will sign bills to protect life when they land on my desk. I want to give a special thank you to President Trump who appointed three Supreme Court Justices, all of whom bravely voted to strike down Roe vs. Wade today and give the Pro-life movement, the unborn, and all of our great country the gift of protecting life that so many have worked so long to achieve.”
