WASHINGTON, D.C. — This weekend, Mike Pence will give several speeches touting his unpopular anti-abortion views and celebrating the Supreme Court decision that allows states to ban abortion. Shwetika Baijal, spokesperson for Planned Parenthood Votes, issued the following statement:

“No matter how many times Mike Pence spews his harmful anti-abortion rights rhetoric, public opinion will not change. The overwhelming majority of Americans support abortion rights and do not want politicians in their doctor’s office. His GOP primary rivals seem to understand this and are desperately trying to avoid talking or answering questions about abortion. But Pence keeps boastfully sharing his extreme anti-abortion agenda out loud. Planned Parenthood Votes will make sure voters know exactly where Pence stands on their health and rights — although he’s certainly making our job easier this weekend.”

This week, USA TODAY/Suffolk University, NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist National, CBS/YouGov’s, Gallup, and NBC all published new polling showing an increase in support for Roe v Wade and disapproval of the Supreme Court decision overturning the federal constitutional right to an abortion. The USA Today/Suffolk University poll found that Americans overwhelmingly oppose a federal abortion ban, a policy Mike Pence emphatically supports. The polling also demonstrates the significant role abortion rights will play in 2024.
