Planned Parenthood Votes Statement on Chris Christie Presidential Run
For Immediate Release: June 6, 2023
WASHINGTON — Today, Chris Christie announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for president of the United States. Jenny Lawson, executive director of Planned Parenthood Votes, issued the following statement:
“Voters won’t be fooled by Chris Christie’s disingenuous ‘moderate’ image. As governor, Christie blatantly ignored the will of New Jerseyans to push his radical agenda and vetoed funding for Planned Parenthood and other family planning health centers. As a failed presidential candidate and professional political talking head, he’s worked hand-in-hand with anti-abortion groups to support abortion bans across the country. Christie has done enough damage. Becoming president is a bridge too far.”
Chris Christie’s anti-abortion and anti-health record:
- Christie supports the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v Wade, calling it “the right decision.”
- As governor, Christie cut $7.5 million in state funding from Planned Parenthood and other family planning centers. He then bragged about vetoing Planned Parenthood funding eight times.
- Christie worked with an anti-abortion group to coordinate abortion bans in states across the country.
- In 2015, Christie supported a federal abortion ban at twenty weeks.
