WASHINGTON, D.C. — Earlier today, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Idaho v. United States and Moyle v. United States, the cases threatening the right of pregnant people to get emergency medical care under federal law — including abortion care. In response, Jenny Lawson, executive director of Planned Parenthood Votes, released the following statement:

“Once again, we are at the U.S. Supreme Court fighting for our right to access basic health care. Donald Trump paved the way for this abortion access crisis. In every state where abortion opponents are in power, they’ve enacted dangerous near-total bans on abortion. Now Idaho politicians want to bring their disregard for pregnant people in emergency situations to the  national level. This is our reality and it will only get worse should Trump and his allies win in November.

“For abortion opponents, it has never been about states’ rights — the goal has always been full control of people's lives and bodies, and eliminating abortion nationwide. Abortion is on the ballot this year. We must elect champions who will fight to protect our personal freedoms and reproductive rights. At no point in pregnancy is a politician more qualified to make decisions about your health than you and your health care provider. Planned Parenthood Votes will continue to sound the alarm and make sure voters understand what is at stake this November and the threat of a second Trump term.”
