WASHINGTON, D.C. — Last week, Donald Trump once again lied about his stance on abortion in his latest attempt to manipulate voters. Voters deserve the truth: We know Trump would sign an abortion ban into law if elected president. He’s already said he supports a national abortion ban, and has repeatedly bragged about overturning Roe. His allies already have the plan ready for him to try to completely ban abortions and limit funding for birth control access — regardless of his desperate attempts to pretend otherwise.

“Trump knows Americans overwhelmingly support access to abortion — and that we’re demanding it be protected at the ballot box. His latest comments were weak attempts to distance himself from the mess he caused while he was president. At no point in pregnancy is a politician like Trump more qualified to make decisions about your health than you and your health care providers. We know exactly where he stands, and we’ll make sure voters remember it in November too,” said Jenny Lawson, executive director of Planned Parenthood Votes.

Since Trump seems determined to muddy the waters on his position about abortion, we’ve answered the questions he keeps trying to dodge AND is unqualified to answer:

Would you sign a national abortion ban?

Trump’s shiny new talking points can’t cover up that just a few weeks ago he expressed support for a 16-week ban. He’s trying to appease his conservative base while manipulating voters — the majority of whom oppose a national ban — and it won’t work. He’s known for backtracking to cover his lies and we won’t fall for it.

Do you still plan on using federal policies to defund abortion providers nationwide and will you enforce the Comstock Act?

GOP leaders are interested in reviving the Comstock Act of 1873 — a patriarchal, outdated law that could be misapplied to throw doctors in jail for providing legal abortion care. Moreover, as president, Trump enacted the Title X gag rule in an attempt to shut down abortion providers nationwide. We already know he’ll take drastic steps to attack providers and decimate abortion access. Trump is obsessed with interfering in our health care decisions and will stop at nothing to take away our freedom to control our own bodies.

Do you trust patients and families to make their own decisions about their health, lives, and bodies?

Trump has never considered or supported the will of the American people. If he did, he wouldn’t have gone against the overwhelming majority of voters who rejected the overturning of Roe v Wade. Impending abortion bans in states like Florida and Arizona are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to consequences Americans will face at the hands of hostile judges appointed by GOP leadership.
