Unfavorable View of Ruben Diaz Sr. Driven by Stance on Reproductive Rights

Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Action Fund commissioned a new poll to learn more about South Bronx voters’ opinions on sexual and reproductive rights, among other issues.

The poll, conducted by Change Research, asked 552 likely Democratic voters in the South Bronx about what issues are most important to them and their community. The poll was conducted in English and in Spanish.

The poll found that South Bronx voters feel favorably toward Planned Parenthood and are broadly supportive of reproductive rights. Most of those polled agree that everyone deserves access to high-quality sexual and reproductive health care, including abortion, and also think Congress should take action to address the issue of maternal mortality, which disproportionately impacts Black women due to systemic racism and bias in the health care system.

Additionally, the poll found that Bronx voters hold unfavorable views of Ruben Diaz Sr. and are concerned by his stances on sexual harassment and reproductive rights. Not only is Diaz Sr. viewed unfavorably overall, but his opposition to reproductive rights is one of the aspects of his candidacy that concerns these voters most: when asked to indicate which two statements about Diaz Sr. concern voters most, the top two statements were his position on not reporting sexual harassment and his opposition to abortion rights.

The poll also found that Bronx voters are concerned that there are not enough quality, affordable options available in their communities and that their community members are unaware of the resources they do have for preventive reproductive health care.
