SANTA FE, NM- Planned Parenthood Votes New Mexico released the following statement after the New Mexico State Senate vote on HB51. HB51 would have repealed an old pre-Roe v. Wade law that criminalized health care providers and their patients for seeking safe, legal abortion care.

"Tonight, the New Mexico State Senate failed the women of New Mexico and our health care providers by not passing HB51. We are disappointed by the Senate's failure to pass this commonsense piece of legislation. The people of New Mexico have made it clear: they want more health care not less. The vote this evening is out of step with the majority of New Mexicans who believe that health care is not a crime. We are proud of those who stood for New Mexico values today and will continue our work to elect pro-reproductive health care champions."
