States across the country will vote on abortion access this November.

Amending state constitutions through ballot initiatives is one way to protect and expand abortion access and reproductive rights in states. Here’s a look at abortion rights measures advancing in states across the country this year and how you can get involved in the fight for abortion rights.

Arizona

Abortion is banned after 15 weeks in Arizona.

The Arizona Abortion Access Act would establish a fundamental right to abortion, guaranteeing all people the right to control their own bodies, including  health care decisions, without unnecessary government interference.

The amendment in on the 2024 ballot in Arizona as Proposition 139.

Colorado

Abortion is legal in Colorado. 

The Colorado Right to Abortion and Health Insurance Coverage Initiative would protect the right to abortion and lift a prohibition on abortion coverage in the state constitution.

The amendment is on the 2024 ballot in Colorado.

Florida

Abortion is banned after 6 weeks in Florida.
 
Amendment 4, “Amendment to Limit Government Interference with Abortion,” would block laws that ban, delay, or restrict abortion access. 

The amendment is on the 2024 ballot in Florida as Amendment 4.

Maryland

Abortion is legal in Maryland.

The Maryland Right to Reproductive Freedom Amendment would change the Declaration of Rights in the Maryland Constitution to guarantee people the right to make their own pregnancy decisions — including the decision to prevent a pregnancy, have an abortion, or continue a pregnancy. 

The amendment is on the 2024 ballot in Maryland as Question 1.

Missouri

Abortion is banned in Missouri.

The Right to Reproductive Freedom Amendment would change the state constitution to protect reproductive health care — including birth control, prenatal, childbirth, postpartum, miscarriage and abortion care. The amendment would also end the state’s total abortion ban. 

The amendment is on the 2024 ballot in Missouri as Amendment 3.

Montana

Abortion is legal in Montana.

The Montana Right to Abortion Initiative would enshrine the right to abortion in the state constitution by giving people control over pregnancy decisions, including the right to abortion. 

The amendment is on the 2024 ballot in Montana as CI-128.

Nevada

Abortion is legal in Nevada.

The Nevada Right to Reproductive Freedom Amendment would amend the state constitution to guarantee the right to abortion. 

The measure is on the ballot as Question 6. If the amendment passes in 2024, it would need voter approval a second time in 2026 to amend the state constitution.

New York

Abortion is legal in New York.

The New York Equal Rights Amendment (NY ERA) would expand the New York constitution’s equal protections and specifically   include pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes, reproductive health care and autonomy, as well as sexual orientation and gender identity.

The amendment is on the 2024 ballot in New York as Prop. 1.
