Texas Governor Rick Perry just signed HB 2, the extreme and dangerous bill that threatens to virtually end access to safe and legal abortion in the state of Texas. By signing this bill into law, he’s making a terrible situation for women’s health even worse.
Perry has already cut off 130,000 Texas women from basic preventive health care, including lifesaving cancer screenings and well-woman checkups, and now by virtually banning abortion he’s further denying women access to health care.
The fact that 80 percent of Texas voters opposed passing this bill in the special session didn’t stop Governor Perry. Instead he chose to ignore public opinion, the thousands of Texans who rallied at the state capital (and across Texas), and members of the medical community who know this bill will hurt their patients. He's truly the Gynotician of the Week.
The fight is far from over. In just a few days more than 35,000 have joined the call to support leaders who stand up for women’s health and rights—and that number is only growing. We’re in it for the long run.
Whether it’s Texas, Ohio, North Carolina, or Wisconsin, we won’t let them have the last word! Tell them we’re in it for the long run.
