It’s time for Senator McConnell to stop trying to destroy the health care of millions of people

Sen. Mitch McConnell spent months trying to ram Trumpcare—the worst bill for women in a generation—through the Senate.
But last night, because of the millions of Americans who have spoken out and put pressure on their lawmakers, the Senate Majority Leader failed to convince 50 of his colleagues to support his disastrous legislation.
So what’s McConnell’s response?
McConnell’s “new plan” is to vote on a bill that takes health care away from even more people. He wants to fully repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) without offering a replacement.
This bill was originally introduced in congress back in 2015. It passed—but President Obama vetoed it the minute it reached his desk in 2016.
That’s right—the GOP’s new strategy is to bring back an already-vetoed bill that would destroy health care for millions.
In other words:
Here’s what the repeal-ONLY bill would do:
Meanwhile, here’s the progress the ACA made on women’s health
-
Historic lows for unintended pregnancy and teen pregnancy
-
The uninsured rate of women of reproductive age in states that expanded Medicaid was nearly cut in half between 2013 and 2015
-
Nearly 7 million women have private insurance through the ACA Marketplace
But Mitch McConnell is putting all that at risk.
Let’s finish this once and for all
It’s time for McConnell to stop trying to destroy our health care. The vast majority of people in this country—including Republicans—don’t want to repeal Obamacare, and don’t want people being blocked from going to Planned Parenthood.
Just take a look at how unpopular this new bill is:
-
65 percent of the American public oppose major reductions in federal funding for Medicaid
-
80 percent of voters, including 67 percent of Republicans, oppose efforts to block people from getting care at Planned Parenthood
Are we going to let this bill get any further?
Here’s how you can be louder than ever and STOP THIS BILL IN ITS TRACKS!
1. Call Your Senator
Let's keep lawmakers’ phones ringing off the hook. Tell them to reject attacks on women’s health. Letters, petitions, and emails are important, but we know calls have the largest impact and grab lawmakers’ attention.
Call your Senator now using our call tool.
2. Tag Your Senators on Social Media
Your senators need to know you oppose repealing the Affordable Care Act and blocking patients from care at Planned Parenthood.
3. Be a PP Defender
Defenders are a core group of supporters who give their time to defend Planned Parenthood, the health services they provide, and the people who rely on them — in what just may be the fight of our lives.
