Sen. Mitch McConnell will try anything to “defund” Planned Parenthood by the end of the week.
That’s why you may have heard that McConnell and Senate Republican leadership is putting together a horrific “skinny repeal” bill that would do just that.
So what's the skinny on the "skinny" bill?
The so-called “skinny repeal” bill is just another version of Trumpcare — with a special focus on hurting Planned Parenthood patients.
Simply put: the “skinny repeal” bill is a direct attack on Planned Parenthood.
According to a report this morning from Axios, the “skinny repeal” includes a provision to plan to “defund” Planned Parenthood. This would block millions of patients from accessing cancer screenings and birth control at Planned Parenthood.
In addition to attacking Planned Parenthood patients, the “skinny repeal” bill also:
-
Increases premiums by 20% (aka $1238 on average)
-
Takes away health coverage from 16 million people
-
Paves the way to slashing Medicaid, eliminating maternity coverage, and kicking millions more off their insurance
-
Hurts young, healthy people—who would lose insurance or wouldn’t be able to afford the “skinny” bill’s higher premiums, which means they would have to pay loads out of pocket for an unexpected illness or pregnancy.
This fight IS NOT over
Make no mistake: this fight is far from over. Thanks to the incredible work you’ve done so far, Trumpcare is on life support. And we need to defeat it once and for all.
And just in case you hadn’t guessed already, Trumpcare is the most unpopular bill in three decades.
The provision blocking women from Planned Parenthood is one of the most unpopular—with 80% of voters, including 67% of Republicans, opposing it.
THE BOTTOM LINE
No matter what version of Trumpcare the Senate votes on, it’s still the worst bill for women in a generation—especially for low-income women and women of color.
This is our last chance
This bill could be passed through the Senate soon, possibly late tonight. You need to tell your Senators NOW that they must listen to the American people and reject Trumpcare — or else they will be responsible for putting millions of people's lives at risk.
It’s go time. Here’s how you can fight back NOW.
