What’s Getting You Through The Day? Post It With #GettingMeThrough!

Since the election, many of us in the progressive community have felt a lot of worry, heartache, and rage. Some of us have experienced moments of despair and panic as we consider exactly what the next administration’s policies mean for us — particularly women, people of color, immigrants,  the LGBTQ community, and people for whom those identities overlap. So many issues we care passionately about are at risk like never before: access to birth control and safe abortion, affordable health care, immigrant rights, voting rights, and funding for Planned Parenthood health centers to provide care, just to name a few.

But it’s not all gloom and doom. Really. Through it all, there's been an incredible outpouring of support for Planned Parenthood and for reproductive freedom. In fact, for every rough moment, there is another moment of inspiration, of strength, of rejuvenation. We’ve also had countless moments of joy.

It’s safe to say that everyone who supports Planned Parenthood needs a boost themselves these days. So, we launched #GettingMeThrough!

It goes without saying: We're in for the fight of our lives this year. But this is the moment to turn fear into hope, and anger into action. This is the time to stand together. And this is the time when we share what’s just getting us through the week — even if it’s something as simple as feminist cat memes or knowing a special secret.

After a weeks-long fight, the Board of Commissioners in Shelby County, Tennessee voted to continue to award Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region a $115,000 grant to provide free condoms across the county. This commonsense vote — and the hundreds of pinked-out Planned Parenthood supporters who packed the commission chamber for the discussion — are helping us get through this week!

From small to big, a lot got us through the week of January 26: Amid attacks from the new administration on immigrant rights, Muslims, reproductive rights, and the environment, one intrepid group of activists gave us the rallying call we needed in the form of a 70-by-35-ft banner reading “RESIST.” The Greenpeace activists scaled a crane 300 feet in the air to mount the banner, which was visible over the White House -- is what’s #GettingMeThrough this week. We’re certain Vice President Mike Pence didn’t expect to get sworn in with so much glitter, but we’re so glad WERK for Peace made it happen. Days before the VP’s inauguration, they threw a Queer Dance Party outside Pence’s house to protest his history of opposing LGBT rights and protections — rainbow flags and protest signs abound. Sequined hat tip to these kickass protestors and their fabulous spirit!
