Black Organizing Program

The mission of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s Black Organizing programs is threefold: to increase Black organizers and volunteers; mobilize supporters; and help Planned Parenthood affiliates build strong relationships with local Black communities.

To do so, the Black Organizing programs provide a host of training and leadership development opportunities to deepen relevant cultural awareness and skill.

Shop Chats

By partnering with Black-owned businesses, Shop Chats aim to educate and highlight major issues in the lives and well-being of Black communities and build from the legacy of Black People’s Civic Participation.

These co-hosted gatherings are held at small businesses where people from the communities the shops serve are invited to discussions on sexual reproductive health care and learn how that care — or lack thereof — affects their lives.

Shop Chats help cultivate meaningful relationships with Black communities. They place sexual and reproductive health care topics in a broader context. Importantly, engaging directly with Black communities allows Planned Parenthood to better shape health services, policy agendas, and organizing strategies that meet Black people where they are.

HBCU Programming

Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s Historically Black College & University Program provides an authentic pathway that centers the lived experiences of students. The goal is to build a network of passionate leaders, committed to reproductive freedom for all.

In partnership with local Planned Parenthood organizations the programs provide resources, support, and organizing best practices that help students lead local advocacy initiatives on reproductive health care, social justice, and political engagement. By providing tools to empower HBCU students they can create tangible change on campus, and educate their communities.
