New York – Tonight, following historic Democratic turnout in the Texas primaries, Cecile Richards of Planned Parenthood Action Fund released the following statement.

Statement from Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund:

Tonight, I’m deeply proud of my home state of Texas. There is a movement building across the Lone Star state: From historic Women’s Marches at the Capitol to record numbers of women running for office, progressives are showing they are a force to be reckoned with in 2018. Across the country, we’ve seen all kinds of conventional political wisdom challenged and today, despite efforts by the state to make voting more difficult, historic numbers of Texans are turning up to cast their ballot in a midterm primary. People across Texas and the country are standing up in the face of attacks on their rights, equality, and health care. This is a great step forward for democracy, and not a moment too soon. Tonight, Texans showed what they’re made of.
