Quote from Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President, Planned Parenthood Action Fund:

“Donald Trump’s new board of ‘advisers’ is a who’s who of some of the more hardline anti-abortion extremists in this country. The real question now is what policies has Trump promised them to get them to all line up behind him so quickly?

“What we do know is that both Trump and his new anti-abortion advisers share the same dangerous goal of overturning Roe v. Wade and preventing women from accessing essential reproductive health care. Trump has sent a clear message by embracing the people who’ve been trying for decades to destroy access to reproductive health care. Make no mistake about it: He is dead serious about eliminating women’s access to health care, and that would be a nightmare for women and their families.”

Background: Donald Trump’s evangelical advisory board includes extreme anti-abortion activist.

Michele Bachmann, former congresswoman

  • Bachmann co-sponsored the so-called “Right to Life Act,” which could also outlaw common forms of birth control, like the pill. [H.R. 618, 1/22/07]

  • In 2009, Bachmann signed onto the “Life at Conception Act,” to legally define life as beginning at the moment of fertilization. [H.R. 1091, 4/8/13]

  • Bachmann introduced the “Positive Alternatives Act,” which would allow federal funding to the states for assistance for low-income families to go to anti-choice “crisis pregnancy centers” (CPCs) and other anti-choice, so-called counseling centers. CPCs offer no medical services and have been known to lie to women and spread misleading and inaccurate information about abortion and pregnancy and, in some instances, harass women [H.R. 636, 1/22/09]

  • Bachmann co-sponsored the “Ultrasound Informed Consent Act,” a bill that would require women seeking an abortion to get an ultrasound before the procedure, require the ultrasound image to be displayed for the woman to view the image, and would additionally require a physician, regardless of his/her medical opinion, to describe the fetus and its development to the patient. The bill only granted an exception to the ultrasound requirement in the case of a medical emergency, but not when the woman is the victim of rape or incest.  [H.R. 3805, 1/23/12]

  • Bachmann wants to ban abortion with zero exceptions for rape, incest, or to even when a woman’s life is in danger. [Salon, 10/26/12]

  • Bachmann has implied that God will punish America for Planned Parenthood and for gay marriage as he did in the days of “Sodom and Gomorrah.” [The Christian Post, 9/29/15]

  • Bachmann believes making access to abortion illegal, in all circumstances and without any exceptions, is “the seminal issue of our time”. [Fox News Abortion Forum, 12/14/11]

  • Bachmann has repeatedly and mistakenly claimed birth control such as emergency contraception induces an abortion. [Politico 9/12/11; Salon, 12/15/11]

Ralph Reed, head of the Faith and Freedom Coalition

  • Reed worked with the extremist anti-abortion group Operation Rescue to harass and intimidate both women and health care providers. He was once arrested and removed from a health center he routinely harassed. [Rewire News, 8/11/08]

  • In a 2015 interview, Reed confirmed that his goal is to see Roe v. Wade overturned: “We remain committed to seeing Roe v. Wade overturned.” [Bloomberg, 7/9/15]

  • Reed has supported banning abortion even in cases where a woman has been raped or is the victim of incest. [The New York Times, 5/4/96]

Robert Jeffress, senior pastor at First Baptist Church of Dallas

  • Agrees with and defended Trump’s comment that a woman who has an abortion should be punished. [The Dallas Morning News, 3/31/16]

  • Said 9/11 was God’s punishment for abortion. [Salon, 3/31/15]

Kenneth Copeland, Kenneth Copeland Ministries

  • Copeland said that abortion “was a seed to” global warming: According to Right Wing Watch, “David Barton recently sat down with televangelist Kenneth Copeland for another series of ‘Believer’s Voice of Victory’ programs….Several of the programs have already been uploaded to YouTube, include one in which Copeland and Barton declare that voting for candidates who support abortion opens the door to a curse upon the nation that results in floods, tornadoes, and pedophilia. ‘Abortion was a seed to it,’ said Copeland, ‘that has grown into a murderous, bloody crop of child death.’” [Right Wing Watch, 10/31/13]
