“It’s not much of a right if it is totally limited and constrained.”

Washington, DC -- Hillary Clinton tonight reiterated her support for the right to access a safe and legal abortion in the face of harmful state restrictions and political attacks.  She also reiterated her support for Planned Parenthood, stating we need “to defend Planned Parenthood, which does an enormous amount of good work across our country.”

Statement from Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund:

“Hillary Clinton tonight reiterated her strong support to preserve access to safe and legal abortion across this country - a right that is currently under threat as a devastating clinic shutdown law is pending before the Supreme Court. Her well stated comments ring true for women everywhere: ‘it’s not much of a right if it’s totally limited or constrained.’ As we face unprecedented political attacks on reproductive care, we need a leader like Hillary who intimately understands these challenges and will lead us into a future where women truly have the right to make their own decisions about their bodies.”

In Hillary’s own words:

“Right  now the Supreme Court is considering a decision that would shut down a lot of the options for women in Texas, and there have been other legislatures that have taken similar steps to try to restrict a woman's right to obtain an abortion. Under Roe versus Wade, women have this right to make this highly personal decision with their family in accordance with their faith, with their doctor. It’s not much of a right if it is totally limited and constrained. I think we have to continue to stand up for a woman's right to make these decisions and to defend Planned Parenthood, which does an enormous amount of good work across our country.”
