WASHINGTON, DC – Today, in direct response to 15 abortion bans passed in states across the country, Planned Parenthood announced that it will partner with leading organizations for the Stop The Bans day of action on Tuesday, May 21. Planned Parenthood will activate its 13 million supporters to attend protests at state capitols and courthouses in all 50 states, alongside its partners: All* Above All Action Fund, ACLU, EMILY’s List, Indivisible, MoveOn, NARAL Pro-Choice America, UltraViolet and Women’s March.
This day of action follows some of the most extreme abortion bans passing in states including Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Ohio. Later today, Missouri is poised to pass one of the nation’s strictest abortion bans, banning abortion at nearly all stages of pregnancy.
Support for abortion access is at a record high -- more than 7 in 10 Americans do not want to see Roe v. Wade overturned. This day of action will send a loud and clear message to politicians: Banning abortion is dangerous, deeply unpopular, and people will not stand for it.
Statement from Dr. Leana Wen, President, Planned Parenthood Action Fund:
Women are outraged. Politicians have absolutely no place in our personal health decisions. Now more than ever, we must unite against this unprecedented attack on our fundamental rights and freedoms. It is time for women, men, and all people to declare that reproductive health care is health care and health care is a human right. We will stand together to defend our right to safe, legal abortion. Because we are in the fight of our lives.
