Joe Heck “Really” Wants to Support Donald Trump for President

Las Vegas, NV –– In an audio tape that CNN received today from a closed-door fundraiser, Joe Heck reportedly told Republicans that he agrees with “certain aspects of policies” of Donald Trump and that he “really” wants to support him.

The fact is that while Donald Trump says a lot of demeaning and offensive things, Joe Heck has been legislating offensive policies in the House of Representatives for nearly six years. Joe Heck has voted to defund Planned Parenthood eight times, voted to criminalize abortion, and voted to make access to affordable birth control more difficult. Joe Heck shares this agenda with Donald Trump.

“Joe Heck and Donald Trump share the same agenda. That’s why Joe Heck supported Donald Trump as he bullied, demeaned, and disrespected women on the campaign trail. That’s why Joe Heck stood by Trump when he called Mexican immigrants rapists,and said that women should be punished for having an abortion. Joe Heck is not brave or a champion for women -- he’s a desperate politician trying not to lose.”

No wonder why Joe Heck said he had “high hopes” that Trump will become our country’s next president. They agree on a lot when it comes to blocking women’s access to health care.

• On Defunding Planned Parenthood:

  • Rep. Joe Heck wants to defund Planned Parenthood and has votedeight times to block patients from care at Planned Parenthood health centers.

  • Donald Trump wants to defund Planned Parenthood, saying “I’m for defunding Planned Parenthood, very strongly … I’m totally for defunding[.]”

• On Access to Birth Control:

  • Joe Heck wants to roll back the progress we’ve made and repeal the Affordable Care Act. He said his opposition to the ACA's birth control benefit, which ensures that women have access to no-copay birth control, has "nothing to do" with women's health.

  • Donald Trump also wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Trump promised that in his first 100 days as president, he’d start to repeal Obamacare, stripping women of no-copay birth control, which has benefitted more than 55 million women.

• On Access to Safe, Legal Abortion:

  • Joe Heck cosponsored dangerous so-called “personhood” legislation that would even outlaw some forms of birth control. Heck also voted to criminalize abortions for rape victims. Heck cosponsored a bill that would ban abortion starting at  20 weeks, with no exception for rape or incest.

  • Donald Trump said being anti-abortion would be a litmus test for SCOTUS nominees. Trump also said the “biggest way” to ban abortion is “by electing me president.” Trump even said that women should be punished for having an abortion. 

• On Equal Pay:

  • Joe Heck votedto block consideration of the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would have addressed the gender pay gap.

  • Donald Trump said equal pay for equal work could be “a negative.”
