Washington, DC — Planned Parenthood Action Fund today released a new video in which multi-Grammy-Award-winning singer/songwriter Mary J. Blige, Emmy Award-winning actor Julianne Moore, and legendary recording artist Q-Tip call on voters nationwide to stand up for and protect women’s health by re-electing President Barack Obama on November 6. The Action Fund is the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
Multi-Grammy-Award-winning songwriter/producer Bryan-Michael Cox composed the music for the “YES WE PLAN” video — inspired by Will.i.am’s 2008 “Yes We Can” video honoring then-presidential candidate Obama.
“YES WE PLAN” highlights President Obama’s commitment to protecting women’s access to affordable health care and features several memorable speeches from his first four years in office. In support of President Obama, the lyrics are, “We have earned the right to be respected. And when we stand together to speak, to fight, to protect our health and our rights, we are powerful. And we will win.”

The video ends with the onscreen text “PLAN TO VOTE November 6. Make your voice heard. Sign our pledge to vote. www.yesweplan.org.”
The video is part of Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s biggest-ever voter education and outreach program, undertaken in partnership with Planned Parenthood advocacy organizations across the country to make sure every woman understands the stark difference between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney when it comes to women’s health and women’s economic security when they head to the polls on November 6.
“Planned Parenthood Action Fund is honored by the support of these incredibly talented artists. They join the millions of women and families who are standing up for women’s health this election and voting to re-elect President Obama. President Obama understands the health and economic challenges women face — and has fought to address them by expanding health care access for women, including birth control and cancer screenings without co-pays; fighting for equal pay for women; and standing up to protect a woman’s ability to make her own personal medical decisions,” said Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
Mitt Romney has said over and over again that he will defund Planned Parenthood if elected. Women deserve to know what this means: it means that millions of women would no longer have access to the lifesaving breast cancer screenings, birth control and other preventive care that Planned Parenthood health centers provide every day. Mitt Romney’s views on women’s health are far outside the mainstream and bad for women.
"Millions of women rely on Planned Parenthood for their basic health care. And it is up to us — to every woman across the country — to support the only presidential candidate who gets this. President Obama believes every woman should make her own health care decisions, without interference from politicians. He stands up for Planned Parenthood. That’s why this Election Day, women everywhere must stand up for him and vote to re-elect President Obama,” said Emmy Award-winning actor Julianne Moore.
“I support women’s health, because I am a woman. I know for a fact that Planned Parenthood has been there for me. When I was a teenager, I don’t know where we would have gone, if Planned Parenthood wasn’t there. Not just for me, for my mother, my sisters, my friends. They’re about preventive care,” said multi-Grammy-Award-winning singer/songwriter Mary J. Blige. “As a woman — even as a teenager — where would we be if Planned Parenthood wasn’t there for us?”
Nearly three million patients come to Planned Parenthood health centers every year — not to make a political statement, but to get high-quality, affordable health care. Planned Parenthood health centers see more than two million patients for birth control every year, and provide nearly 750,000 breast cancer screenings and more than four million STI tests/treatments. Preventive care and birth control are economic issues for women and families, and supporting family planning is smart fiscal policy for the country.
