Over 500,000 Signatures Opposing Price Delivered to HELP Committee
For Immediate Release: Jan. 18, 2017
Washington, DC -- Today, over 500,000 petitions were delivered to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) opposing Rep. Tom Price’s (R-GA) nomination as Secretary of Health and Human Services. Senator Patty Murray, ranking member on the HELP committee, and Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) received the petitions from the group. Organizations gathering signatures included Planned Parenthood Action Fund, CREDO, MoveOn.org Civic Action, Public Citizen, American Federation of Teachers, National Physicians Alliance, Physicians for a National Health Program, National Council of Jewish Women, National Women's Law Center (NWLC), UltraViolet, Housing Works, MomsRising, All* Above All and NARAL Pro-Choice America.
As organizations that represent millions of individuals across many backgrounds, immigration status, incomes, needs, and hail from different geographic areas, we firmly oppose the nomination of Rep. Tom Price for Secretary of Health and Human Services. His commitment to dismantle historic health reform and leave more 30 million without health insurance would hurt those who already face systemic barriers to care including women, men, young people, people with disabilities, senior citizens, people of color, people in rural areas, LGBTQ people, and people with low income. We can’t go backwards and we won’t go backwards.
