High six-figure digital investment will emphasize Trump’s, key U.S. senators’ roles in jeopardizing the protections of Roe v. Wade as Supreme Court hears oral arguments in abortion case

Washington, DC  As the Supreme Court prepares to hear arguments today in an abortion case that could render the protections of Roe v. Wade meaningless, Planned Parenthood Action Fund launched a high six-figure digital ad campaign calling attention to the ways Donald Trump and United States senators have put Roe and safe, legal abortion at risk.

The digital ads call out TrumpSen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) for contributing to a world where the protections of Roe v. Wade are at risk like never before. The ads highlight how Trump “vowed to see Roe v. Wade overturned,” Collins “turned her back on Mainers and voted to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court,” and how Tillis “asked the Supreme Court to consider taking away our right to safe, legal abortion.”

Jenny Lawson, vice president of organizing and engagement campaigns, Planned Parenthood Action Fund:

“The president and members of Congress who put our rights and health care at risk are on the wrong side of public opinion. Let’s be clear: The Supreme Court isn’t considering a case that could upend abortion access by accident. It’s by design, and the president and Sens. Thom Tillis and Susan Collins share responsibility. Americans don’t want to see our reproductive rights taken away — and Planned Parenthood Action Fund is raising the alarm on these blatant attacks on abortion access."

The Supreme Court case being heard on Wednesday, June Medical Services v. Russo, challenges a medically unnecessary abortion restriction in Louisiana that is nearly identical to one of the rules struck down in Whole Women’s Health v. Hellerstedt in 2016. If the Court upholds the Louisiana law in defiance of this precedent, it could leave Louisiana with only one health care center that provides abortion for nearly 10,000 people of reproductive age. Allowing the abortion restriction to stand would also pave the way for states to effectively ban abortion for more than 25 million people of reproductive age nationwide. This is the first time the Court is hearing oral arguments in an abortion case since Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch were seated on the Supreme Court.
