WASHINGTON, DC —  Planned Parenthood Action Fund condemns this week’s Supreme Court ruling that will allow President Trump’s travel ban to go into effect, imposing restrictions based on country of origin on those seeking to enter the U.S. from eight nations, nearly all of them Muslim-majority.

Challenges to the travel ban will continue in lower courts in the Fourth and Ninth Circuits, where the Trump administration and GOP leaders are working every day to appoint radical and oftentimes unqualified nominees. There are currently more than 140 vacancies in these courts. So far, President Trump has nominated dozens of candidates for these vacancies, and many of them have already been confirmed.

Statement from Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund:

“The Supreme Court’s ruling underscores the importance of having judges at all levels of the judiciary who value individual rights and freedom, like the ability to emigrate no matter your religion. There are more than 140 federal judicial vacancies, each one a lifetime appointment. That’s why we need our senators to do everything in their power to stop extreme nominees. The health and lives of millions of people are at stake.

“The Trump travel ban is a thinly veiled attack on our Muslim communities, and the court’s decision lets stand a deeply un-American policy — one that abandons our nation’s best and highest ideals in favor of nativist fears, weakening America’s moral authority in the world.

“The Planned Parenthood community is made up of people from all walks of life — including people of all backgrounds and faith communities, including Muslims. Our health centers are proud to provide care to everyone regardless of faith, country of origin, and immigrant or refugee status. And Planned Parenthood Global’s community-based partners in Africa and Latin America help families overcome poverty, conflict, and other unimaginable barriers.

“That’s why Planned Parenthood and our 10.5 million supporters are prepared to stand alongside our partners to fight for an America that is welcoming to all and stronger because of it — a beacon of hope for people around the world, no matter their skin color, religion, or country of origin.”
