For Immediate Release: Nov. 6, 2018
Richmond, VA — Today, Planned Parenthood Action Fund congratulated U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va. on his resounding reelection to the Senate.
Statement from Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President, Planned Parenthood Action Fund:
Sen. Tim Kaine is a powerful advocate for the health and rights of all people, and we are thrilled Virginians have sent him back to the Senate to represent them. Sen. Kaine is committed to the belief that health care is a right, and that people should be able to make their own health care decisions. Over 23,000 people in Virginia rely on Planned Parenthood health centers for care, and we look forward to standing with Sen. Kaine as he works to ensure all Virginians have access to sexual and reproductive health care.
Statement from Missy Wesolowski, Executive Director, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia:
Today, Virginians voted with their health care in mind. From before he was governor, Sen. Tim Kaine has stayed dedicated to his long record of defending health care for women and all communities. Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia is excited that Sen. Tim Kaine will be returning to the Senate, where he has opposed efforts to restrict access to birth control and defund Planned Parenthood.
As part of Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations’ biggest midterm program ever, Planned Parenthood Action Fund invested heavily in Virginia this cycle, recruiting more than 2,100 members to knock on doors, make phone calls, and get out the vote as volunteers for Sen. Kaine and other Virginia candidates endorsed by the Action Fund. As of tonight, Planned Parenthood Action Fund members have made an estimated 33,880 door knocks and phone calls.
