Washington, DC — Today, Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced its endorsement of 198 members of the House on the ballot for re-election in 2022. With the Supreme Court considering a case that could overturn Roe v. Wade and put abortion access at risk for 36 million women, plus trans, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming people who can get pregnant across 26 states, the stakes have never been higher to re-elect leaders who will fight to preserve and expand access to sexual and reproductive health care.

In 2020, the reelection of a pro-reproductive rights majority in the U.S. House of Representatives meant renewed potential to restore, protect, and expand access to sexual and reproductive health care across the country and around the world. Their leadership resulted in the passage of critical legislation in the House, including the Women’s Health Protection Act, spending bills free of the discriminatory Hyde and Helms amendments, and the permanent repeal of the global gag rule – incredible steps in just one year. In 2022, it will be critical to maintain and expand that majority to continue fighting to protect abortion access across the country.

Statement from Alexis McGill Johnson, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund:

“2022 is poised to be the most consequential year for abortion access in a generation. Next year, the right to decide our own futures will be on the line — and up and down the ballot — like never before. That’s why we must protect the seats of leaders in the House who have a consistent record of standing up for our right to basic health care and the freedom to chart our own paths. In the last year, we’ve seen these members support meaningful measures to advance access to reproductive health care in the U.S. and globally. Amid the relentless threats to safe, legal abortion, we will need their leadership more than ever.”

The Action Fund’s endorsement of U.S. House incumbents for the 2022 election cycle includes all candidates that currently maintain a 100% on the Action Fund scorecard based on the current and preceding six years of congressional votes. To earn a perfect score, a member of Congress must always vote in support of sexual and reproductive health and rights.
