The Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, announced its endorsement of Rep. Dan Maffei (D-NY) in the upcoming election for New York’s 25th Congressional District.

“The Planned Parenthood Action Fund is proud to endorse Dan Maffei for Congress,” said Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “Planned Parenthood has worked with Congressman Maffei on promoting and protecting women’s health. He is a passionate advocate for women and women’s reproductive rights.”

Maffei is a co-sponsor of the Prevention First Act, which aims to decrease unintended pregnancies and health risks by expanding access to preventive health care and education services. He has also co-sponsored bills advocating improved breast cancer treatment and awareness and calling for increased government attention and assistance to women in developing countries. He has worked to improve access to quality health care for women, support and protect a woman's right to choose, strengthen comprehensive sex education to keep our young people healthy and safe, and invest in prevention programs, including family planning services and breast cancer screenings.

“Dan Maffei has been a strong voice for women’s reproductive health since his first day in office,” said M. Tracey Brooks, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York. “That’s why we need to re-elect him to Congress where he will stand up for women and families and put commonsense health care needs ahead of ideology and politics.”

Maffei is being challenged by anti-women’s health and anti-choice activist Ann Marie Buerkle. Buerkle previously worked for the radical anti-choice organization Operation Rescue, known for its intimidation tactics against women patients. Constituents of New York’s 25th Congressional District deserve a congressional leader who knows that women’s health really does matter, and Dan Maffei is that leader.
