Planned Parenthood Action Fund announces its endorsement of incumbent Rep. Colleen Hanabusa for Hawaii’s First Congressional District today. The Action Fund is the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

“We are proud to endorse Representative Colleen Hanabusa for Congress today,” said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “Representative Hanabusa has been a tireless advocate for women, standing up to those in Congress who continue putting politics ahead of women’s access to health care.”

Congresswoman Hanabusa is a champion for women. While in Congress, she has:

1. Voted against H.R.3, a bill that would take away comprehensive health insurance from women and would impose a new tax burden on millions of small businesses, as well as men and women — and their families — for seeking abortion coverage even if it's used when a woman’s health is at risk.

2. Voted against proposals to block Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funds, which would cut off women’s access to lifesaving preventive care including cancer screenings and birth control.

“We are thrilled that the Action Fund has endorsed Congresswoman Hanabusa for Hawaii’s first congressional district,” said Amy Monk, co-chair of the Planned Parenthood of Hawaii Action Network board. “Since she was elected to Congress in 2010, Representative Hanabusa has worked hard to protect women’s health care so that women, especially those that are most vulnerable, receive the services they need. Women and families in Hawaii can count on Congresswoman Hanabusa to fight for them in Washington and to put commonsense health care needs ahead of ideology and politics.”

Colleen Hanabusa brings to Washington a passionate, hardworking and fearless approach to advocacy, honed by more than three decades spent fighting for the rights of her clients in the halls of justice and her constituents on the floor of the Hawaii State Legislature.

She has dedicated her life to service and is committed to providing for the people of Hawaii while preserving the unique values and traditions that define the Aloha spirit.
