Planned Parenthood Action Fund Endorses Elizabeth Warren for U.S. Senate
For Immediate Release: May 11, 2012
Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced its endorsement of Elizabeth Warren for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts. The Action Fund is the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
“Planned Parenthood Action Fund is proud to support Elizabeth Warren for U.S. Senate,” said Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “She has been a vocal champion for women’s health and rights and will be a passionate advocate in Congress.”
“Now more than ever, Massachusetts voters want and deserve to be represented in Congress by someone who puts smart policies ahead of political ideologies,” said Dianne Luby, president of the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund in Massachusetts. “Elizabeth Warren is that candidate. The battle over birth control coverage gives us a brief preview of the thoughtful approach she will take on both health care and economic issues. If elected to Congress, she will oppose attacks on women’s health and do what’s best for Massachusetts families.”
Most recently, Elizabeth Warren stood up for women’s health and opposed the Blunt amendment, an extreme measure that would have allowed corporations and insurance companies to deny access to any health services they object to, such as birth control, maternity care, HIV/AIDS treatment, mammograms, and cancer screenings.
As a U.S. senator, Warren will be a strong advocate in Congress to defend health care access under the Affordable Care Act and work to ensure and improve women’s access to the full range of reproductive health care options, including contraception, maternity and newborn care, and safe abortion care.
