Washington, DC — Planned Parenthood Action Fund recently announced its endorsement of Kim Gillan for Montana’s At-Large Congressional District. The Action Fund is the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

“We are proud to endorse Kim Gillan for Congress,” said Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “We are confident that Kim will stand up to politicians in Washington who continue to launch attacks against women’s access to health care.”

Gillan is running against Republican nominee Steve Daines. Montana’s At-Large District is currently served by Republican Representative Denny Rehberg.

“Kim Gillan understands that health care in America needs to be accessible and affordable for everybody, and she will be a strong advocate for women’s health care access in Congress,” said Stacy James, president, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Montana. “Montana women and families can count on Kim Gillan to fight for them in Washington and to put women’s health care needs ahead of ideology and politics.”

Gillan has vowed to be a strong advocate for Planned Parenthood patients in Montana. In 2011, the five Planned Parenthood health centers located in Montana served 16,352 patients by providing a wide range of preventive health services, including 5,735 cervical cancer screenings (i.e., Pap tests) that detected 970 abnormal results that required further diagnosis and treatment, 2,689 breast exams, and 8,498 tests for chlamydia — the leading cause of preventable infertility — that resulted in 614 positive results and follow-up treatment.
