Planned Parenthood Action Fund Endorses Mark Pocan for WI-02

Washington, DC — Planned Parenthood Action Fund has announced its endorsement of Mark Pocan for Wisconsin’s 2nd Congressional District. The Action Fund is the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

“We are proud to endorse Mark Pocan for Congress,” said Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “We are confident that Mark will stand up to politicians in Washington who continue to launch attacks against women’s access to health care.”

Pocan is running against Republican Chad Lee. Wisconsin’s 2nd District is currently served by Democratic Representative Tammy Baldwin.

“Mark Pocan understands that health care in America needs to be accessible and affordable for everybody and has vowed to be a strong advocate for women’s health in Congress,” said Tanya Atkinson, executive director, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin. “Women and families in Wisconsin’s 2nd Congressional District can count on Mark Pocan to fight for them in Washington and to put women’s health care needs ahead of politics.”

Pocan has vowed to be a strong advocate for women in Wisconsin who rely on Planned Parenthood for health care. In 2011, the 27 Planned Parenthood health centers located in Wisconsin served 79,155 patients by providing a wide range of preventive health care services, including: 8,810 cervical cancer screenings (i.e., Pap tests) that detected 2,079 abnormal results that required further diagnosis and treatment, 10,494 breast exams that detected 134 abnormal results that required further diagnosis and treatment, and 32,851 tests for chlamydia — the leading cause of preventable infertility — that resulted in 3,635 positive results and follow-up treatment.
