Planned Parenthood Action Fund announces its endorsement of David Cicilline (RI -1) today.  The Action Fund is the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

“We are proud to endorse David Cicilline in his race for Congress today,” said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund.  “As a steadfast advocate for women’s health, David Cicilline is the only person in this race that will protect women’s health in Washington.”

First elected to Congress in 2010, Cicilline has been a strong voice against the relentless attacks on women’s health over the last two years.  Cicilline has pushed to expand funding the Title X family planning program, which provides birth control and other preventive care to more than five million women a year.  Cicilline also clearly understands that health issues are also economic issues for many women.

The contrast between Cicilline and his primary opponent could not be starker.  Cicilline’s opponent supports government interference in women’s health and opposes coverage of birth control without co-pays.

“David Cicilline understands that health decisions should be left to a woman, her family, her doctor, and her faith — not politicians,” said Richards.  “Cicilline will continue to fight to protect women’s health care and ensure that women, especially those that are most vulnerable, receive the care they need.  He’s the only candidate for this office that has a clear understanding of what’s at stake for Rhode Island’s women and families.”
