Planned Parenthood Action Fund Endorses Republican State Senator Jean Schodorf In Kansas’ Fourth Congressional District
For Immediate Release: May 11, 2012
The Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced its endorsement of State Senator Jean Schodorf in the Republican primary in Kansas' Fourth Congressional District race. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund is the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
“Senator Jean Schodorf has a strong record fighting for women’s health and women’s rights in the Kansas Legislature,” said Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “Senator Schodorf’s record is a testament to the fact that women’s health is not a partisan issue. Her leadership in standing up for women to get the health care they need is the kind of leadership we could use across the country.”
With a 100 percent pro-choice voting record in the Kansas Legislature since being elected in 2000, she has been a leader in rounding up votes against legislation that would restrict women’s access to comprehensive health care. She stands on the side of women’s health by building support for commonsense solutions, including comprehensive sex education for Kansas youth. She has worked with her colleagues to support prevention legislation designed to keep women, men and families healthy, as well as prevent unplanned pregnancy.
“Throughout her years in the Kansas Legislature, Jean Schodorf has stood up for policies that put women’s health care needs ahead of narrow, ideological interests,” said Peter Brownlie, president of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Kansas and Mid-Missouri.
As a U.S. representative, Schodorf will fight for women’s health and rights, commonsense health care policies, and comprehensive sex education that keeps young people healthy and aware.
Senator Schodorf was also recently awarded the Planned Parenthood Republicans for Choice® Barry Goldwater Award for her outstanding record of working to protect women’s health. This prestigious award is named after the late Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater, who was an outspoken leader in the Republican Party to ensure the rights granted to women following the Roe V. Wade decision were protected. The Planned Parenthood Republicans for Choice® Barry Goldwater Award is presented each year to an elected official who is a proven leader within the Republican Party on women’s health issues.
