Educating Public About Vote to Take Health Care Away from Women

Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced today it is immediately launching radio ads in seven Congressional districts to highlight House members’ votes to eliminate federal funding for Planned Parenthood and take away preventive health care from millions of women.

“Americans need to know if their member of Congress is putting politics ahead of fairness, compassion, and common sense,” said Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund.  “That’s why we are immediately launching radio ads explaining the devastating impact this proposal will have on women’s health.”

Planned Parenthood Action Fund is running two different radio ads in seven Congressional districts.  One radio ad, called “Flushed,” highlights the failure of the Pence amendment to create a single job or reduce the deficit.

The second radio ad, called “True Story,” features a woman telling her personal story about how Planned Parenthood saved her life by diagnosing her cervical cancer in time for her to get treated and survive long enough to raise children.  Years later, she now relies on Planned Parenthood to provide affordable care for her teenage daughters.

The full ad scripts are below.

The initial ad buy is for one week.  The ads are running in the following Congressional Districts:  Reps. Allen West (FL-22), Joe Walsh (IL-08), Randy Hultgren (IL-14), Frank Guinta (NH-01), Ann Marie Buerkle (NY-25), Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-08), Pat Meehan (PA-07).

Today’s vote in favor of the Pence amendment to bar Planned Parenthood from any federal funds is an outrageous assault on the millions of Americans who rely on Planned Parenthood for primary and preventive health care, including lifesaving breast and cervical cancer screenings, annual exams, birth control, HIV testing, and STI testing and treatment, and will result in millions of women losing access to basic health care.

Planned Parenthood is a community-based provider of life-saving primary and preventive health care.  For many Americans, our doctors and nurses are the only health care providers they see. More than 90 percent of the care Planned Parenthood health centers offer is preventive.  Every year, Planned Parenthood doctors and nurses carry out nearly one million lifesaving screenings for cervical cancer and 830,000 breast exams, and its health centers also provide contraception to nearly 2.5 million patients and nearly four million tests and treatments for sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.

Radio Ad: “Flushed”

Hear that?

It’s the sound of (Congressman/woman First name Last name) wasting your money.

S/he just voted against one of the best investments ever:

making sure that women and families can get affordable birth control and preventive health care.

X’s vote doesn’t create a single job, doesn’t reduce the deficit, and doesn’t save you a penny.

What his/her vote WOULD do is bar Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funding to do its vital work — by denying millions of women preventive care, including birth control, annual exams, and lifesaving cancer screenings.

And (name) vote is sure to increase the number of unintended pregnancies and undetected cancers.

In the long run, that’s going to cost all of us plenty.

Representative X promised to focus on jobs, but instead s/he’s joined a costly war on women’s health care.

Radio Ad: “True Story”

For more than 90 years, Planned Parenthood has provided basic health care for women and families.  Care that often saves lives.

Here’s Carolyn’s story:

I was in college.  I was 19, and I didn’t have insurance, so I went to Planned Parenthood.  I was diagnosed with cervical cancer.  I was treated.  I’ve been a survivor for the past 30 years.  I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Planned Parenthood’s early detection.  And now my children go to Planned Parenthood.

But now Congressman (First name Last name) has voted to betray Carolyn and the millions of women who rely on Planned Parenthood for lifesaving health care.

His/her vote would bar Planned Parenthood from receiving any federal funding to provide vital health services — denying cancer screening, birth control, HIV testing, and more.

His vote condemns thousands of women in our state to undiagnosed diseases, unintended pregnancies, and untreated illnesses.

Representative X has gone to war on women’s health.
