WASHINGTON — Today, the Supreme Court voted to strike down a gun law in New York that would place restrictions on carrying a concealed gun outside the home. This ruling comes just weeks after ten people were murdered at a Buffalo, NY supermarket and a mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, TX, and as the country continues to face a gun violence public health crisis. Alexis McGill Johnson, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, responded:

“This Supreme Court continues to prove that they are out of touch with the American people and cannot be trusted to protect our fundamental rights to health and safety. Let’s be clear: There is no reproductive freedom without the ability to raise our children in safe, healthy environments, free from gun violence. Yet with today’s ruling, the court is going out of its way to prevent lawmakers from passing common sense gun restrictions, at the same time they seem prepared to allow states to restrict our right to decide if and when to have children. We all deserve the right to raise the families we decide to build in safe communities. Planned Parenthood Action Fund won’t stop fighting until that right is a reality across the country.”
