Planned Parenthood Action Fund Stands With Partners and Electeds in Demand for Accountability
For Immediate Release: Jan. 13, 2021
WASHINGTON, DC — On Wednesday, January 6, a Trump-backed mob of white supremacists stormed the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. in an attempted coup incited by the president. Consequently, Planned Parenthood Action Fund supports today’s impeachment vote by the House of Representatives, and encourages the Senate to quickly remove the president and hold all those who instigated, supported, or participated in the violence accountable.
Statement from Alexis McGill Johnson, president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund:
The attack on the U.S. Capitol was a horrifying display of white supremacy – insurrectionists assaulted our democracy and violently ransacked the Senate and House of Representatives, resulting in several deaths. And they did it at the urging and encouragement of the president of the United States and members of Congress. We understand all too well that terror and violence are used by white supremacists as tools of intimidation: we’ve seen it throughout American history. We stand firm in demanding those who participated in this violence or instigated it by advocating for the overturning of a free and fair election be held responsible.
“For our country, the path to healing requires accountability. And that’s what we’re calling for today. Planned Parenthood Action Fund stands with Speaker Pelosi and congressional leaders in support of the impeachment and removal of President Trump.
