Washington – Planned Parenthood Action Fund President Alexis McGill Johnson released the following statement after President Donald Trump announced he intends to nominate someone to fill Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat on the Supreme Court on Saturday.

Alexis McGill Johnson, president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund:

“We know whoever this president puts forward will be an offense to Justice Ginsburg’s legacy and her fight to ensure that women are treated fairly at home, at work, and importantly, in the doctor's office. Donald Trump has made it clear that he would only appoint justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade, and his administration is currently asking the Supreme Court to dismantle the Affordable Care Act. If Trump succeeds in appointing a third justice, access to health care will be in jeopardy for millions of people across the country. And while our nation is suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic that has killed more than 200,000 Americans, Senate leaders have now promised to rush through and confirm any nominee, even as they continue to ignore the devastating consequences of this public health crisis.

“Our rights, our health, and our futures are on the line — the people must decide who will join the highest court in the land. Let me be clear — we will fight with everything we have to stop any Supreme Court confirmation before the Inauguration.”
