Washington, DC -- Planned Parenthood Action Fund released the following statement on the recent developments in the cases to seek justice for Tamir Rice and Sandra Bland:

Statement from Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund:

“Unfortunately, as many families are celebrating the holidays with loved ones, the Bland and Rice families are memorializing their children, who lost their lives to the hands of police. What's even more heartbreaking is the lack of justice they will receive as both Texas and Ohio courts have decided against holding people accountable for their deaths.

"Parents should never have to bury their children, nor should they fear their children will lose their lives at the hands of law enforcement. In the case of Tamir Rice, young boys should not be feared nor be unable to play in a public playground at the risk of losing their life. Young women like Sandra Bland deserve to live to their greatest potential.

"We stand with the community in calling for justice for the lives of Tamir Rice and Sandra Bland. We also stand with the partners and activists who are calling for laws to change in order to protect black lives. Our hearts are with the Rice and Bland families."
