Planned Parenthood Local and National Political Advocacy Groups Endorse Montana Lt. Gov. John Walsh for Senate
For Immediate Release: Jan. 14, 2014
WASHINGTON, DC—Planned Parenthood Action Fund and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Montana announced today the joint endorsement of Montana Lieutenant Governor John Walsh for Senate. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is the national advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Planned Parenthood Advocates of Montana is the statewide advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood of Montana. Walsh, a champion for women’s health, is running to fill retiring Senator Max Baucus' (D-MT) seat.
“Planned Parenthood Action Fund is proud to endorse Lieutenant Governor John Walsh for Senate,” said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “With Republican leadership in Congress already launching renewed attacks on women’s health, it is clearer than ever that we need allies like John in Washington who will stand like a brick wall against any attempts to limit women’s access to health care. We’re confident John will stand up for policies that will help women and their families get ahead.”
“We proudly stand with Planned Parenthood Action Fund in our endorsement of John Walsh for Senate,” said Stacey Anderson, Director of Public Affairs for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Montana. “Throughout his life, John has been a steadfast champion for Montana women and their access to health care. As lieutenant governor, John has been a vocal supporter of women’s access to health care and an ally to Planned Parenthood under the dome and on the campaign trail. Montanans can rest assured that John will stand with them here at home and in Washington as our next U.S. Senator.”
Anderson states “In his short career in DC, Congressman Steve Daines has proven that he is no friend to Montana women. Whether it’s endorsing bills to restrict access to health care, voting against food stamps for single working mothers, or putting over 12,000 Montana workers out of a job during the government shutdown, Daines is one of the reasons Congress has the lowest approval ratings in history. We need change in Washington, DC, and John Walsh, with his background and leadership, will represent Montana families and values, not corporate lobbyists and special interests.”
