Planned Parenthood: Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Hate in Muslim Ban Decision

WASHINGTON, DC — Planned Parenthood Action Fund condemns today’s Supreme Court ruling that upholds President Trump and Mike Pence’s Muslim ban imposing restrictions based on country of origin on those seeking to enter the U.S. from eight nations, nearly all of them Muslim-majority.
Statement from Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund:
Today is a dark day in the history of America. Donald Trump and Mike Pence’s Muslim ban is an appalling attack that effectively closes our borders to people from select countries because of their faith. Today, by upholding the ban, the court ruled in favor of a law meant to exploit hate and fear for political gain. This decision, one in a series of decisions by a narrow 5-4 majority of the court, underscores the need for lawmakers to confirm fair-minded justices who will affirm people’s individual rights and liberties.
The Planned Parenthood community is made up of people from all walks of life — including Muslims in the United States and across the world. Our health centers are proud to provide care to everyone regardless of faith, country of origin, and immigrant or refugee status. And Planned Parenthood Global’s community-based partners in Africa and Latin America help so many women and families overcome unimaginable barriers to health, including poverty, conflict, and violence.
