REPUBLICAN PARTY PLATFORM ATTACKS PLANNED PARENTHOOD FOR FIRST TIME IN HISTORY
For Immediate Release: July 19, 2016
Cleveland, OH -- Today the Republican Party released its official platform, along with the news that the party had, for the first time in history, attacked directly by name Planned Parenthood and the basic care its health centers provide. The platform also repeats dangerous, false accusations against Planned Parenthood originally made by indicted anti-abortion extremists --- repeating the same dangerous rhetoric that has enabled so many political and violent attacks on health care providers and patients in the past year.
Quote from Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President, Planned Parenthood Action Fund:
“This isn’t just an attack on Planned Parenthood. It’s an attack on the millions of patients who rely on Planned Parenthood health centers each year for basic health care. It’s an attack on the brave doctors, clinicians, staff, and educators who have been facing down violent rhetoric and threats just to provide people with things like cancer screenings, birth control, and well-woman exams. This attack in the party’s platform is unconscionable, and explains why Trump has a gender gap of historic proportions.
“Trump is doing exactly what he said he would do: trying to unite the party by making women and their access to health care a target.”
