Washington, DC -- House Republicans today voted for the sixth time since the August recess on a bill to defund Planned Parenthood or roll back access to safe and legal abortion, despite another veto threat from the president.

Instead of focusing on sound governing and moving forward with economic priorities, House Republicans continue to be obsessed with cutting off women’s ability to receive services like lifesaving breast cancer screenings, STI tests and treatment, and birth control.

Statement from Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund:

“Enough is enough. The congressional obsession with defunding Planned Parenthood is costing our country and putting health care for millions at risk. These politicians were elected to govern, but instead they would rather target low-income women and their ability to receive health care based on an extremist agenda -- voting no fewer than six times since August to attack access to basic, preventive services.

“Planned Parenthood is committed to providing high-quality care to its patients who don’t come in to our health centers for political reasons but for their health. We will continue to fight against these senseless political attacks and provide care no matter what.”

No fewer than 12 national polls have shown that a sizable  majority of the public supports Planned Parenthood, making it clear this is not what Americans want their elected officials to focus on.
