Statement from Cecile Richards, President of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, on the Results of the Presidential Election
For Immediate Release: May 14, 2012
“The Planned Parenthood Action Fund congratulates Barack Obama on being elected the 44th president of the United States and we celebrate the election of a pro-choice and pro-women’s health president.
“Today, voters across America voted for change and voted for women’s health. In January, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund launched the One Million Strong Campaign, to educate and turn out one million pro-choice and pro-women’s health voters and send the message that women’s health matters. Today, that message was received loud and clear.
“We endorsed Barack Obama because he is a passionate advocate and champion for women’s rights, and has a long and consistent record of standing up for women's health care. As president, he will improve access to quality health care for women, support and protect a woman's right to choose, support comprehensive sex education to keep our young people healthy and safe, and invest in prevention programs, including family planning services and breast cancer screenings.
“As a leading advocate of women’s reproductive health care, we look forward to working with President-elect Obama, Vice-President-elect Joe Biden and a new Congress on a pro-women’s health agenda that will ensure all women have access to quality, affordable health care.”
