Statement from Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund

WASHINGTON, DC – Planned Parenthood Action Fund President Cecile Richards released the following statement after Allen West this morning conceded the election in Florida’s 18th Congressional District to Patrick Murphy:

“Planned Parenthood Action Fund congratulates Patrick Murphy on his hard-fought win in Florida’s 18th Congressional District.  This is not only a victory for Florida women, but for women across the country.  Allen West’s defeat shows that voters overwhelmingly reject candidates who interfere with women’s access to health care.

“Allen West came to Congress in 2010, promising to focus on jobs and the economy.  Instead, he took up an agenda that trampled on women’s health and teamed up with Representative Mike Pence to cut funding to millions of women who rely on Planned Parenthood health centers.  We look forward to working with Patrick Murphy in Congress because south Florida’s women deserve so much better than Allen West and his Tea Party antics.”
