“Both John Kasich and Donald Trump have pledged to take women back to a time when they couldn’t make their own, personal health care decisions.”

Kasich calls out Donald Trump for condescending and degrading remarks about women while thanking his female supporters for “leaving their kitchens” to support his campaign

Washington DC –– In an attempt to soften his dismal record on women’s health care and general lack of respect for female voters, today John Kasich announced he was “very concerned” about Trump's disparaging comments about women. This hypocritical comment comes a day after an anti-Trump super PAC released an ad that shows a series of women using the New York billionaire’s words against him.

Donald Trump continues to offend and alienate women, communities of color, and religious groups on the campaign trail. John Kasich is trying to carve out support from Ohio voters –– presenting himself as the only reasonable alternative to Donald Trump. But when you look closely at John Kasich’s record as Governor of Ohio, you see one of the most extreme anti-abortion, anti-women’s health records in the entire country. The truth is, women in Ohio have been left with no good choice among the GOP candidates. Both John Kasich and Donald Trump would be an absolute disaster for women’s health and rights in this country.

Quote from Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund:

“The GOP has put Ohio women between a rock and a hard place. It is unconscionable that every GOP candidate has taken the position of decimating women’s health in this country. One thing is clear –– Republicans have learned nothing from the 2012 elections. Mitt Romney’s demonization of Planned Parenthood and desire to ban abortion led to the largest gender gap in recorded history. Yet, the GOP has marched out an even more extreme field of candidates, leaving Ohio women and women across the country with no good choice among the GOP candidates. Both John Kasich and Donald Trump have pledged to take women back to a time when they couldn’t make their own, personal health care decisions. We’re not going back.”

Background: John Kasich and Donald Trump both want to decimate women’s health.

Kasich’s Position

On abortion

Says he would ban safe and legal abortion and would appoint anti-abortion judges to the Supreme Court.

Has already waged a quiet campaign to ban abortion in Ohio, enacting 17 measures that restrict access to safe, legal abortion. Nearly half the abortion providers in Ohio have shuttered under his watch and he wants to see the same thing happen as president.

On Insurance Coverage of Birth Control

Has prioritized repealing the Affordable Care Act which has provided more than 55 million women birth control coverage without a copay. Would use Hobby Lobby as a litmus test for appointing a Supreme Court Justice.

Has prioritized repealing the Affordable Care Act, which has provided more than 55 million women now birth control coverage without a copay.

On Access to Basic Health Care at Planned Parenthood

Would rather shutdown the government then allow patients to access care at Planned Parenthood and has repeatedly said that he would block patients from care Planned Parenthood.

Has personally taken it upon himself to block the 80,000 Ohioans who rely on Planned Parenthood from accessing care there. Said Republicans should “fight like crazy” to end funding for Planned Parenthood.
