Are you one of the 73 percent of Americans who oppose the administration’s nationwide “gag” rule — the dangerous new proposal designed to block access to health care for millions of people? You’re in the clear majority, but President Trump doesn’t care. He’d rather pander to anti-abortion voters — even if his own party doesn’t agree.

That’s clear according to a new poll by Hart Research Associates. The poll found that people overwhelmingly don’t want a gag rule, which is harmful, dangerous, and needs to be withdrawn immediately.

Act now: Stop Trump's gag rule!

Hart surveyed over 1,800 adults this past May on over a dozen of the administration’s health care policies and proposals. According to the researchers, the evidence couldn’t be more clear: “The bottom line from this survey is that the Trump-Pence administration’s agenda for women’s health runs directly counter to the priorities of the American public.”

In fact, the survey found that more than twice as many Americans disapprove as approve of the administration’s initiatives on women’s health care, including actions to limit women’s rights, access to affordable birth control, and access to safe and legal abortion.

Let’s break it down even further...

People Overwhelmingly DISAGREE with Trump’s Gag Rule

  • 73 percent of Americans oppose a nationwide gag rule.

  • 91 percent of African Americans and 78 percent of Hispanics oppose a gag rule, showing that opposition is especially strong among communities of color.

  • 44 percent of Republicans overall disapprove of a gag rule, and 48 percent of Republican women disapprove.

People Overwhelmingly SUPPORT Planned Parenthood

  • 81 percent of women oppose blocking access to care at Planned Parenthood health centers. Their position is rooted in personal experience, as almost one in three have visited a Planned Parenthood health center for care.

  • 80 percent of Americans oppose “defunding” Planned Parenthood.

The Gag Rule isn’t Just Extremely Unpopular — it’s Also Extremely Dangerous

The gag rule is an attempt to take away women’s basic rights. Period. Its consequences could be devastating.

The rule would make it illegal for any doctor, nurse, hospital, community health center, or other Title X health care provider to tell patients how they can safely and legally access abortion.

The result could be that millions of people will not get the health care they need — birth control, cancer screenings, STD testing and treatment, or even basic wellness exams.

But wait, there’s more. The rule’s also designed to make it impossible for millions of patients to get birth control and preventive care at Planned Parenthood, which serves 41 percent of all Title X patients. Preventing Planned Parenthood from serving patients would mean many people would have nowhere else to go for basic health care services.

Guess Who Wins the Popularity Contest? Planned Parenthood

You wouldn’t know it by the Trump-Pence administration’s fake news rhetoric, but Planned Parenthood is actually the most popular American organization right now. Maybe that’s because of Planned Parenthood’s tireless providers, who deliver vital reproductive health care, sex education, and information to 2.4 million people every year.

Meanwhile, President Trump remains the most unpopular president in modern history. Perhaps it has something to do with how — time and again, policy after policy — he keeps doing the exact opposite of what the American people want. Enough is enough.
